A screening and discussion of Walt & El Grupo as part of How to Read El Pato Pascual: Disney’s Latin America and Latin America’s Disney.

In the spirit of Oswald de Andrade’s landmark 1928 provocation, the Manifesto Antropófagio, this program features a works of artists, dating from the 1950s up to today, that engage in found footage filmmaking, a subaltern practice of decolonization and critique through the collage of appropriated images and audio.

In conjunction with the A Vast Furniture exhibition on view at the Schindler House, artist Kim Stringfellow presented a lecture on historical and contemporary instances of homesteading in the California desert, from her Jackrabbit Homesteads project examining the relics of the Small Tract Act of 1938 to the community behind current placemaking efforts in the Mojave Desert.

LACE, ONE Archives and the MAK Center presented a screening of recent video work by Doug Ischar alongside videos by Bruce and Norman Yonemoto from the 1980s. The program included Ischar’s brb (2007), and Alone With You (2011), recently part of the 2014 Whitney Biennial, and Bruce and Norman Yonemoto’s Garage Sale II (1980), and Vault (1984).

In conjunction with the MAK Center’s Garage Exchange Vienna-Los Angeles at the Mackey Garage Top, the Goethe Institute on Wilshire Boulevard presented a talk and a screening revolving around the film Cold Rehearsal (2013) by Constanze Ruhm and Christine Lang.

Acclaimed filmmaker Thom Andersen curated a series of architecture films from around the world, which were shown in the Schindler House courtyard over three evenings. .

The MAK Center and The Society for the Moving Image in the Built Environment (SMIBE) co-presented a screening of The Cool School (dir. Morgan Neville, 2008) at the Schindler House.

The MAK Center presented an afternoon of poetry with three contemporary writers.

The animation screening presented sixteen short works by fourteen artists, all examples of how the animation medium has been used to explore the potential of the hand drawn line to articulate or confound dimensionality, the pictorial, and temporality.
