Philipp Fleischmann

FINE ARTS
Philipp Fleischmann’s artistic practice can be situated in the fields of the fine arts and film. He is certainly interested in the institutional logics and mechanisms into which he repeatedly intervenes as a protagonist. Questions of access play a key role. For his strategies replete with institutional critique, Fleischmann has developed a formal idiom that is completely bound to analogue film. His works, such as those that were made in art institutions, picture these spaces via a photographical procedure and then transfer these into a filmic temporal sequence. In order to arrive at his objective, Philipp Fleischmann develops site-specific cameras that allow him to reflect on the physical and cultural dimensions of the depicted spaces.
Since 2014, Fleischmann serves as the artistic director of the School Friedl Kubelka for Independent Film, in Vienna. His works have been presented, among others, at the 16th Biennale de Lyon, France; 34th Bienal de São Paulo, Brazil; TIFF, Toronto International Film Festival, Canada; Secession, Vienna, Austria; Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Vienna, Austria; Museo Arte Contemporanea Roma (MACRO), Italy; Berlinale, Berlin International Film Festival, Germany; Ann Arbor Film Festival, USA; Anthology Film Archives, NYC, USA. He lives and works in Vienna, Austria.
