German artist Beate Passow’s work, Numbers, consisted of large-scale color photographs, each showing a forearm tattooed with a concentration camp identification number. To create this powerful work, the artist searched for survivors of Auschwitz and asked if they would permit themselves to be photographed, to preserve a record of these last witnesses to the Holocaust and its dehumanizing brutality. Numbers was curated by A. Alexa.
