Tetuzi Akiyama is known for guitar improvisation ranging from the spare acoustic reductionism of onkyo to hell-on-the-highway inspired electric boogie. His 2005 release Route 13 to the Gates of Hell: Live in Tokyo was number eight in The Wire’s 50 Records of the Year. Tetuzi Akiyama was presented with support from the Japan Foundation through the Performing Arts JAPAN program, the Los Angeles County Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts through an Inter|Arts grant and special consideration from the Center for the Arts, Eagle Rock.
The MAK Center in collaboration with the Society for the Activation of Social Space through Art and Sound (SASSAS) presented the 2006 sound. concerts at the Schindler House.
