Jesse Webber: Hitch

  • Schindler House 835 North Kings Road West Hollywood, CA, 90069 (map)

Los Angeles based artist Jesse Webber—known for oversized, fiberglass abstract sculptures finished in condo-inspired stucco, fake wood grain, rusted polish or high gloss hot-rod green—produced site-specific sculptures for the Schindler courtyards. The artist compared the pre-fabricated mid-century trailer homes of his native Tennessee to California Case Study houses, finding many similarities. He created dysfunctional elemental objects based on mnemonic translation of these highly charged aesthetic-political-socio-economic forms. This project attempted to rework tropes of modernist design, tracing origins to perverse abuses and misappropriations.
