The MAK Center for Art & Architecture and Deluge present an afternoon of sonic situations by artists Contour, Linafornia and Kelman Duran. Responding to the singular environs of the Schindler House, the artists’ sounds will seep throughout its varied spaces, invoking the porous social boundaries and experimental behaviors enabled by its radical design.

CONTOUR

Khari Lucas (@ccontourr) is a songwriter/musician (most often releasing work under the alias Contour), scoring composer, writer/poet, and occasional programmer in both digital and real space. His work, grounded in Black musical traditions (i.e. jazz, soul, blues), follows in the footsteps of artist-expressors throughout history, and seeks to honor these traditions while carrying them through the present and into the future, as well as offer provocations, invitations, and tools for Black listeners to contextualize their own emotions and experiences. His songwriting explores themes including grief, love, violence, labor, and the inner emotional landscape at large.

LINAFORNIA

Linafornia (@linafornia) is a producer and DJ that hails from Leimert Park, Los Angeles. Her sound was formed in the essence of warm, sunburst skylines, and the cool whoof of speakers in some of LA’s most popular underground venues. The genres that Linafornia explores in her music vary from hip-hop to disco and house to jazz fusion, ambient and more, crossing regions and eras to create a diverse experience for all. Linafornia embodies a new generation of artist, always stepping forward while staying true to her roots and to the sounds that inspire her.

KELMAN DURAN

Kelman Duran (@kelman.duran) is a Dominican-American composer, DJ and visual artist. As a DJ and producer, he was one of the primary forces behind LA’s storied Rail Up party series. His recent work includes producing “I’m That Girl” on Beyonce’s Renaissance and composing the score for the film Rodeo, which premiered at Cannes in 2022.

ABOUT DELUGE
