German artist Beate Passow’s work, Numbers, consisted of large-scale color photographs, each showing a forearm tattooed with a concentration camp identification number. To create this powerful work, the artist searched for survivors of Auschwitz and asked if they would permit themselves to be photographed, to preserve a record of these last witnesses to the Holocaust and its dehumanizing brutality. Numbers was curated by A. Alexa
Coming to Terms with the Present, October 20, 1999. Artist Beate Passow showed slides of current and past works and discussed the current MAK Center exhibition.
