About the book
Appearing almost 9 years post-Katrina, New Orleans Under Reconstruction: The Crisis of Planning is the first book to illustrate and analyze comprehensively architectural and planning responses for rebuilding the city. The book comprises 31 essays by and interviews with architects, planners, landscape architects, historians, and public intellectuals. In addition, project sections illustrate 43 visionary proposals that the editors selected from the more than 200 that they collected, published, and archived on their Web site “Project New Orleans” (www.project-neworleans.org). The book presents important new research devoted to disaster recovery and ecological planning, offering to those who must rebuild other cities a multiplicity of invaluable insights and lessons no matter how distinct their cities may be.
