Docent/Intern ProgramVisitors of all ages enjoy the innovative architecture and arts programming at the Schindler House. MAK Center docents and interns help make the experience of these visitors informative and memorable. MAK Center docents and interns work on a volunteer basis. Docents work one shift per month, typically providing tours of the Schindler House and MAK Center exhibitions. At times, additional assistance may be requested for weekday tours or for special events.
Internship Opportunities MAK Center Interns work 8-10 hours per week for a semester or summer, specifically on projects related to their skills and interests. Projects may include but are not limited to research, office administration, or exhibitions and publications assistance. Knowledge and interest in art and/or architecture (modern through contemporary) is a plus. We will work with the intern’s specific goals and knowledge base to make the internship a positive learning experience that will prove useful for professional development. In appreciation of their service, docents and interns receive free admission to the Schindler House and to MAK Center events; discounts in the MAK Center Bookstore; and regular field trips that include exclusive tours of rarely seen architectural sites in and around Los Angeles. The MAK Center also gladly accepts the help of volunteers for events and special projects. This is a great opportunity to contribute to the preservation of a historic landmark as well as gain experience at a non-profit center for art and architecture with varied programming and broad outreach. Students majoring in art, architecture and art history may especially benefit from these positions, but anyone interested is welcome.
